Introducing Community Beatmaps — Discover AI-Generated osu! mania Maps
DanceGAI is no longer only a generator: new maps now appear in Community, playable with their song and downloadable as .osz for their first 7 days. Here's how it works and why we built it.
DanceGAI started as a generator: you upload a song, you get a playable .osz, and the map is yours. You could share its link, or publish it to the Gallery by hand — a map only reached other players if you went out of your way to share it. Today the Gallery becomes Community Beatmaps — a public page of osu! mania maps that DanceGAI players have generated — and new maps now show up there by default.
What Community Beatmaps is
Community is where you go to find something to play. Each map shows its song title, artist, key mode, difficulties and the osu! name of the player who made it (or “Anonymous”). You can filter by key mode from 4K to 9K and by star rating, search by song or artist, and featured maps sit at the top. Open a map and you can play it in your browser, then download it for osu! if you like it.
Why we built it
DanceGAI started as a tool: upload a song, get a beatmap. That works if you already have a song in mind. But a lot of players don’t arrive with a file — they arrive wanting something new to play, and a generator with an empty upload box has nothing to offer them.
Meanwhile, every generation produces a full osu! mania mapset, and unless its maker shared it, nobody else would ever play it. Community connects the two: the maps people generate become maps other people can discover. It also makes it easy to judge what the generator does before you upload anything — you can play real results, on real songs, in the key mode you play.
How a map gets into Community
There’s no separate publish step: every new map is shown in Community by default. A short line under the Create button says so, and pressing Create confirms that you have the rights to share the song:
New maps appear in Community for 7 days. By pressing Create, you confirm you have the rights to share this song. You can hide your map any time from Share.
That confirmation is the reason Community can share the song along with the map. When the generation finishes, the map is listed automatically. A few details matter:
- Community shows the song title and artist you type in. Your file name is never made public, so a map without a typed title isn’t listed.
- Maps made without an account are listed too, but without their song — downloading a map you generated yourself is part of signing up, and a public copy shouldn’t skip that.
- Each map page has a Report button if something shouldn’t be there.
The first 7 days: play it with the song, download the .osz
For the first 7 days after a map is generated, anyone can play it on its page with the song, and anyone can download the complete .osz — charts and song together — to play in osu!. This is when a new map is most useful to other players, and it’s the window the creator agreed to share the song for.
- Day 0 — generated. The map appears in Community, playable with its song,
.oszdownloadable. - Day 7 — the song is deleted. The uploaded audio and the public
.oszthat contains it are removed. A map nobody saved leaves Community at the same time. - After day 7 — saved maps stay. A saved map keeps its page and its place in Community, as a silent preview.
Save: keep a map you like
On a map you generated, Save keeps that beatmap permanently. A saved map doesn’t leave Community after its first 7 days. You can unsave it again later.
What Save doesn’t do is keep the song. Songs are never stored for good — uploaded audio is deleted 7 days after generation for every map, saved or not. Save keeps the beatmap: its page, its charts, its difficulties and its preview.
After the song is gone
Once the audio has expired, a map’s page still works: the chart preview plays without sound, and the downloadable .osz is gone. If you have the song yourself, choose Add the song… and pick the same file the map was made from. The map then plays with your copy, and you can download a .osz built right there in your browser from the stored charts and your file. The song never leaves your device — nothing is uploaded.
A map that wasn’t saved leaves Community after 7 days, and its public page stops opening for other people. As its creator you can still find it in your own history under the normal retention rules in our Privacy Policy.
Keeping a map out of Community
If a map is just for you, take it out of Community from its Share menu, by choosing who can see it: Anyone with the link keeps it out of Community while the link still works for people you send it to, and Private means only you can open it.
From a generator to a place to find maps
Community is a small change to how a map is made — one line under the Create button — and a big change to what DanceGAI is. A generator only helps when you already know what you want to play. A community of generated maps gives you something to discover first, shows honestly what the model produces across many real songs, and gives the maps people make a second life beyond the person who made them.
If you’re curious how the maps themselves are made — timing detection, the planner that shapes each difficulty and the model that places the notes — the Technology page walks through it, and our story covers how DanceGAI got here.
