osu! game modes Coming soon on DanceGAI

What is osu! taiko?

osu! taiko is osu!'s drum mode, inspired by Taiko no Tatsujin. Notes scroll from right to left along a single lane towards a drum, and you hit the centre or the rim of the drum in time with the music.

How osu! taiko is played

On a keyboard you usually play with four keys: two for the centre of the drum and two for the rim, so you can alternate hands.

What's in an osu! taiko beatmap

Each difficulty is a plain-text .osu file containing:

Difficulty and star rating

osu! calculates a star rating (★) for every difficulty from note density and the colour patterns — how often you switch between don and kat, and how fast.

osu! taiko on DanceGAI

TaikoGAI, DanceGAI's model for osu! taiko, is planned and not available yet — there is no release date. A taiko generator has to choose don and kat so the colour patterns follow the drums and melody of the song.

Today DanceGAI creates osu! mania maps with ManiaGAI and osu! standard maps with OsuGAI (beta). If you also play one of those, you can turn the same song into a playable mapset now.

Can DanceGAI create osu! taiko maps?

Not yet. TaikoGAI is planned; today DanceGAI creates osu! mania maps (4K–9K) and osu! standard maps (beta).

Can I play osu! standard maps in osu! taiko?

Yes — osu! converts osu! standard maps to osu! taiko automatically. Maps made for osu! taiko are written around don and kat patterns instead.
